Films: Graveyard Shift (1990)
Alias: None
Type: Unknown, possibly Natural
Location: Underground/Haunted home
Height/Weight: That of an average human.
Affiliation: Neutral
Summary: Deep within the bowels of the cemetery, one might think there are evil spirits and zombies waiting to snatch them up. As it turns out, all you’re going to get is a lot of dirt and vermin. Though you might want to pay attention to the vermin more often.
History: The local textile mill has just been reopened. The only problems are the cruel foreman, and the armies of rats that call the place home. The rats themselves are mostly harmless, but they're there for a reason. For where the rats go, the monstrous bat-like superior follows, and kills anyone who dares venture within its realm. Only a few have seen it and lived, but the foreman doesn't care.
Notable Kills: Nothing special
Final Fate: After killing just about everyone, the rat beast is led into the heart of the mill, and gets its tail caught in an activated cotton picker, tearing it to shreds and leaving only its head.
Powers/Abilities: Seems to have complete control over the rat population.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 4-We may barely see this creature in full, but it's already unsettling on the eyes in close-ups. Looking like some kind of zombified bat, this beast doesn’t have to fly to make your death a messy one.
Trivia: -According to the short story, almost all of the rats are mutants, having evolved to become bigger and nastier, with some becoming bats. Their matriarch was described as being as big as a calf.
-The crew went completely out of their way to make sure that the rats never got harmed. Only the fake ones. For instance, for when the place got flooded, rats trained to swim were utilized.
